About our activities at sea SUP Canoeing and Snorkeling

Azores4Fun offers daily equipment rental for the practice of various water sports: Stand Up Paddle, Canoeing and Snorkeling.

Our SUP boards and canoes are inflatable, which is very practical to easily take them anywhere and venture out to explore.

Stand Up Paddle (SUP) is a sport that derives from surfing, where it is necessary to stand on a board in the water, while using a paddle to move around. It is easier and safer than surfing and is an excellent way to work the whole body, especially stimulating balance and muscle development, as well as guaranteeing a unique and fun experience at sea.

Canoeing can be practiced in Canoe or Kayak, in calm or rough waters. They are stable and easy to maneuver. As with SUP, Canoeing provides physical and psychological benefits, being a great way to improve mental health, as water helps the mind to release the stress accumulated during the day and create a sense of calm.

Snorkeling is a sport that offers the extraordinary experience of observing coastal marine life through apnea with goggles and breathing tube, and with the optional use of a pair of fins for greater and faster mobility.

Venture into these activities and enjoy Faial! Come with us to discover our coast and with our equipment, venture out by sea for the privilege of enjoying other landscapes and perspectives of the island.

Azores4Fun, Tourism and Adventure – Who are we?

Azores4Fun is a company created in 2011 to carry out maritime tourism activities, based in the city of Horta, island of Faial, Autonomous Region of the Azores.

For 8 years, Azores4Fun focused its action on diversifying the existing tourist offer in the Azores, investing in a portfolio of innovative products and services, which allowed its customers to enjoy nautical activities and experiences on board a sailboat, which ranged from a simple overnight stay on board, on multi-day inter-island cruises, including short trips through the channels of the Triangle Islands and participation in regattas.

In 2017, Azores4Fun acquired a Toyota BJ40, from the 70s, for recovery and future use for transfers from its customers as well as off-road tours in what is one of the most classic and emblematic vehicles in this category.

In 2019, “Casa da Travessa” opened, in a building in the heart of the city of Horta, consisting of two apartments with a total capacity for 15 people, as well as deciding to expand its activity to other maritime and nature activities, thus advancing with the purchase of 3 Kart Cross (Buggys), kayaks and inflatable SUP boards and snorkeling equipment.

In 2021, it invested in PaintBall material and created a field for that purpose from scratch, with trenches, obstacles, bases and a briefing and assistance area. With a field created for this purpose, Azores4Fun provides unique conditions for this strategy game in physical and real mode.

One of Azores4Fun's bets, as a differentiation of its offer, will be the availability of complete and complementary packages of activities. With various durations, from hours to days, the packages may include off-road tours, in Kart Cross or in the Classic Toyota BJ40, Paintball, walking routes, camping or local accommodation and nautical activities (SUP, Canoeing, Snorkeling).

Afloat with SUPs and Kayaks

In a region where nature has generously offered 1,000,000 km2 of sea, there are countless opportunities, for leisure and sports, to enjoy the sea and all its mystique and natural beauty. The sea is the largest and widest “natural product” in the Azores. Water sports are one of the most intimate and respectful ways of relating to the sea. The “beat” of the air on the face and body, the sound of hooves “tearing” the sea…the fantastic slopes and coves that we can only appreciate from the sea… “smell of the sea”… in a mutual relationship of surrender and fascination, in the sea, above all, we discover that it offers itself in fullness for us to enjoy it! Enjoying the sea, and all the countless spaces with enormous tourist value, only accessible or seen by sea, in non-motorized equipment, are a guarantee of total preservation and respect for the environment. Whether in the bay of Porto Pim, in Praia da Conceição, in Porto do Comprido next to the Capelinhos Volcano, in Varadouro, Porto de Castelo Branco overlooking the Morro,  Praia do Almoxarife, or any other port on the island of Faial (the state do mar is always the one who “sends” the most when choosing the place for the activity...) one thing is guaranteed: anywhere there is always a unique way to fully enjoy the “trilogy” Sea, Geology and Nautical Sports. The ideal, due to its singularities, will be to explore all the places, one at a time… Azores4Fun offers, with daily equipment rental, this opportunity, whether on a SUP board or in a Kayak or Canoe. Our boards and canoes are inflatable, which is very practical to take them easily to any location and venture out to explore.

Equipment used to play Paintball

For the protection and safety of everyone playing Paintball, it has a list of equipment, which must be well maintained and in good condition. Are they:

• Marker (paintball gun)
• Air bottle
• Loader (Ink Ball Loader)
• Protection mask
• Vest
• Paint Balls

The Marker, despite being a "play" weapon, can hurt, so remember that whenever you're not in play, the safety switch must be locked. Likewise, whenever you enter the playing area, it is mandatory to wear a protective mask, which serves to protect your face from any shot that may come your way.

Regarding clothing, the recommended thing, so that you suffer the least from the impact of the balls and are protected on the field, is:

• Long pants, preferably with a "cushioning" layer
• Pair of high-top sneakers or boots
• Long sleeve hoodie
• Neck protector
• Pair of gloves

Once you are well equipped, have fun playing! You'll be able to roll, run, hide and shoot at "enemies" and, for sure, it will be a few hours well spent!

Tips and strategy for playing paintball and winning

With or without much experience, it is essential to follow some tips to succeed in your games. Playing paintball is not just about shooting friends with paint. Playing paintball involves strategy, leadership, skill and decision making.

For starters, it's important to be in shape and keep in mind that in a paintball game you won't stop for a second!

If you really want your team to win paintball games, it is also essential that they practice communication, as this will help to control the situation on the field much better. In the same way, it is especially important to always have very clear objectives before starting to attack because it will be much easier to follow the strategy and achieve an objective, than just being impulsive. It may also be interesting to practice your weaknesses so that you have the opportunity to help your team at all times.

It is not mandatory to enter the game area with a defined strategy, but it will certainly facilitate your objective of winning the game. Keep reading and researching to learn the best paintball tricks and start enjoying it as soon as possible, winning victories with your team.

Finally, whenever possible, warm up before the game, stay focused and, above all, have fun!

More about Paintball and its benefits

Contrary to what can be assumed, Paintball was not based on military training... It originated in the United States when, in 1981, a group of twelve people decided to play “capture the flag”, using weapons developed by forestry engineers to mark trees and tracks.

Paintball is an action sport, fun and extremely extreme. Even so, among extreme sports, it is considered the safest. The biggest risk in this sport is vision, however, the use of adequate masks and the correct understanding and practice of the rules, totally eliminates this risk.

Players use bullets (the weapons) that shoot paintballs that, on impact, burst and leave a smear of paint. The balls that serve as ammunition are made of a thin gelatine, filled with paint and are environmentally friendly and the weapons (markers) are specific for this sport, so they are not lethal.

There are several types of games (you can check our page at (www.azores4fun.com/paintball   to see a small description of each one) and the main objective is to never get hit. If you get shot, and the ball bursts, you're out of the game and you have to wait until the next one starts, so when you find a player from the opposing team, shoot and tag him before he does that to you!

To play, create your team and wear your most comfortable clothes that you can get dirty, I promise you will have a good experience.

In general, the benefits of playing paintball include: release of stress and a progressive increase in mood, development of the ability to work in a team, good communication and creation of strategies, in addition to expending a good amount of calories!

Horta Cidade Mar and Casa da Travessa, Tiny & Yatch Spirit City Break

Inspired by the "City Break", what we propose is a "Tiny City Break", given the size (in area) of the city of Horta, with "Yatismo", a theme that makes the "small" city of Horta a large and cosmopolitan city in the nautical world, in particular cruise and transatlantic sailing.

We believe that this unique “mix” can provide you with an equally unique experience.

2h20 by plane from Lisbon, or 45min away from Ponta Delgada, Horta is a perfect destination. from “close”, to venture into any “short break”, but q.b. from “far away” to travel, experience and break any routine typical of the “capitals”.

And unlike other destinations in the Azores, all of which are often “breathed” with the luck of a “gardener” weather, which often waters and humidifies us to maintain the lush green that characterizes us, in the city of Horta there is a lot to do and experience. even on “rainier” days, from museums (for example, the Scrimshaw, unique in the world) and interpretive centers (Centro da Baleia or Casa Manuel de Arriaga, for example), so these days are never a risk of spoiling any short getaway in the city of Horta.

Casa da Travessa is, due to its location, undoubtedly a great place to “base” in a “Tiny & Yatch Spirit City Break”.

Casa da Travessa offers two apartments, with a total capacity for 15 people, in the center of Horta. It is located on a side street (Travessa do Poiso Novo) that gives direct access to the Avenida Marginal in the city of Horta, we would say that it is one of its best “spots”, as it is possible to enjoy a pedestrian walk between Praia and Parque da Alagoa, at one end, and the famous Marina da Horta, at the other, always with a superb view of the Pico mountain as a “background”.

At the other “end” of the Casa da Travessa lane is the emblematic Praça da República, next to which the Municipal Market is located, and, less than 1km away, an array of historic buildings not to be missed, such as Império dos Nobres, the Amor da Pátria Society, the Faialense Theater, the Church of the Santíssimo Salvador da Matriz, the Clock Tower, the Carmo Church, among others, that we invite you to explore its history.

If Avenida Marginal, and its view of the canal, with its bustle of boats (from May to September mainly…), as well as the proximity to the Marina da Horta, imbue us with a true yachting spirit, the numerous historic buildings of the city da Horta and, as a result of the most recent revitalization action, the “new life” of the Municipal Market, currently a restaurant and social area, give Horta an up-to-date city spirit.

The old maritime and yachting tradition and reputation, and all the stories and stories that were created around it, “on top” of the natural beauty of its bay and channel, only sharpened the charm of Horta as a sea city. Its geostrategic location and its importance during the 2nd world war, in transatlantic aviation, when it was a seaplane port, or even in world communications, as a point of confluence of submarine cables, as well as the “legend” of the paintings in Porto or Marina (which turned it into an open-air painting gallery), or even the emblematic Peter Café Sport, a stage for adventures and meeting point for the so-called “adventurers” who in the past, in precarious boats, ventured across the Atlantic and in the vegetable garden found a safe and friendly harbor to “connect to the world”.

There will not be, much less in Portugal, many cities with the size of Horta and with its reputation and world history and cosmopolitan “flavor”.

Come visit us, break your routine, experience the yachting spirit of Horta, be enchanted by its history and stay with us at Casa da Travessa!

Renting instead carrying

If you love water sports, going on vacation to a destination like the Azores has a first big associated “thought”: “how nice it would be to carry my favorite sports equipment in your suitcase!!! With all those spots, it would be great!” And if you even have some material that is easy to transport, such as an inflatable SUP board, the challenge of limiting weight and luggage space ruins that “dream”. Azores4fun “solves” the matter for you by providing SUPs, Canoes and Snorkeling equipment for rent on the island of Faial. Our SUP boards and Canoes are inflatable to be easy to transport anywhere. Snorkeling material is safely sanitized and disinfected at the end of each use. To rent any of the equipment you can send us an email or contact us by phone, and you can pick up directly at our headquarters (free of charge) or we can arrange delivery to your accommodation (upon payment of the service), as long as it is in the city of Horta.
